Russ Sanders, AIA

20 year Archicad veteran from Phoenix Arizona.

Russ Sanders has been a passionate proponent of the Virtual Building approach to architectural  design for over 19 years. He has been instrumental in realizing Orcutt | Winslow’s vision of BIM and integrated practice, believing that the approach could provide for greater design freedom while lessening the time required to accomplish repetitive tasks. He completed the first fully-described virtual building project for the firm in the mid 1990s. He has since continued to hone the virtual building approach on projects in Arizona while speaking on the subject throughout the United States and abroad. As an architect, office and community mentor who works on all facets of projects from programming to design to field administration, Sanders believes in developing systems “from the trenches,” applying technology to real-world problems. His current team of eight consists of registered architects and recent graduate students who share his vision and pioneering spirit. Sanders has created a laboratory environment (within the larger office of 90+ employees) where new BIM concepts can be explored in the context of real architectural projects.
